- Action anime is a anime wherein the story is largely told through physical action as opposed to dialog. The action typically involves individual efforts on the part of the hero.
- Adventure anime is a anime which have an activity that comprises risky, dangerous or uncertain experiences
- Comedy anime is a anime which have any humorous discourse generally intended to amuse
- Drama anime  is a anime which similar with drama
- Ecchi anime is a anime which have some sexual (not too heavy) scene
- Fantasy anime is a anime that uses magic and other supernatural forms as a primary element of plot, theme, and/or setting. Fantasy is generally distinguished from science fiction and horror by the expectation that it steers clear of scientific and macabre themes, respectively, though there is a great deal of overlap between the three.
- Historical anime is a anime which have historical theme
- Horror anime is anime which have fiction in any medium intended to scare, unsettle, or horrify the audience
- Magic anime is a anime which have magic element involved
- Mecha anime is a anime which have gaint robo
- Military anime is a anime which have military theme
- Music anime is a anime which have music element involved
- Mystery anime is a anime which focuses on the efforts of the detective, private investigator or amateur sleuth to solve the mysterious circumstances of a crime by means of clues, investigation, and clever deduction

- Romance anime is a anime which ussually have love element involved
- Science-fiction anime is a anime which deals principally with the impact of actual or imagined science (and/or technology) upon society or individuals.
- Shoujo anime is a anime which marketed to a female audience roughly between the ages of 10 and 18
- Shounen anime is a anime which marketed to a male audience roughly between the ages of 10 and 18
- Slice-of-life anime is a anime which ave story that portrays a "cut-out" sequence of events in a character's life. It may or may not contain any plot progress and little character development, and often has no exposition, conflict, or dénouement, with an open ending. It usually tries to depict the every-day life of ordinary people, sometimes with fantasy or science fiction elements involved. The term slice of life is actually a dead metaphor: it often seems as if the author had taken a knife and "cut out" a slice of the lives of some characters, without concern for narrative form.
